DOM is a project we completed for a countryside restaurant, offering a place where people can escape the city bustle, enjoy the rustling of tree canopies, take a dip in the pool, and savor high-quality cuisine. But behind this paradise-like retreat lies a rich story that we’d like to share in detail.

Let's rewind to 2020. The current site consisted of two separate buildings and a large concert stage. The interiors were dark, steampunk-inspired, and featured many heavy elements and textures, with large beams of artificially darkened wood and sizable metal structures, all saturating this former biker haven. Our task was to transform this space into a bright family-friendly retreat, where children's laughter replaces heavy rock music and a curated wine collection replaces the 30 varieties of beer.

First, we tackled architectural changes. A quality modern complex requires a lounge area, so we added one to one of the existing buildings. To increase seating capacity, we connected the two original buildings with open and closed terraces. The summer terrace now faces a pool, which we placed where the concert stage used to be. The primary work, however, was on the interior.
We sought to clear the space as much as possible. All contrasting and black elements were painted white, reducing visual tension. We restored the artificially darkened wood to its natural, light state wherever possible. It was essential to minimize textures, so we repeated elements instead of adding new ones. Importantly, we didn’t simply discard old features; instead, we updated and integrated them as much as possible—for example, by retaining the marble drawer handles.

You'll notice that we used minimal decor. This choice was in line with our decision to install panoramic windows, allowing the beauty of the pine trees to enhance the interior. Creating a space that fosters a deep sense of escape from city life and a connection with nature was essential to us.
Despite our efforts, the interior still bore remnants of its past architecture. To draw attention away from these, we installed hand-made woolen light fixtures that cast both direct and diffused light, creating a cozy atmosphere. Additionally, we used lamps with a narrow beam angle to enhance the coziness.

Over six months, we realized this project, coordinating contractors and ensuring the work met our design vision. Now, walking through the restaurant, launched in July 2021, it’s gratifying to see so many guests truly enjoying the atmosphere, nature, and exquisite food. These moments underscore the value of our work and the importance of thoughtful design before starting any construction.
